Last weeks I couldn't write on the blog because I hadn't got enough time to do it. But now I can,.
I read all your translations and I have been thinking about it. Is it a good idea or not? I don't know but in my humble opinion I think the best think is to express the meaning of the song. Why? Because I think an author wants to write or sing their own feelings, and If we try to translate, we could lose his thoughts. It's only my opinion. Behind a song there is a message. The work of translating is good but we could lose the meaning of the song or the message. This is only my opinion.

ReplyDeleteI work hard to get the more appropriate translations, certainly it is a tough task, I learn so much and enjoy. Surely you can write new entries with different exciting proposals. This blog has the friendly only purpose to help each other. Let me not speak about what others write in their entries. I want to take advantage to pay a tribute to all translators who have successfully carried knowledges at universities around the world , namely; philosophers, doctors, poets, scientifics,...The target is always to shape to the language to carry ideas without changing them.(sorry for mistakes)

Great English, Javier. I understand your viewpoint. Certainly something is always lost in translation. But I, like Roberto, have learned interesting vocabulary and expressions by doing and correcting translations. It also spares one the hard duty of thinking of something to write about. Sometimes that's my biggest obstacle to writing something in Spanish.

ReplyDeleteI only want to express my opinion, but we can translate songs, to learn new words, expressions .... but be careful, because, as you know Roberto, the spanish translation ( Englisht to Spain) it's really difficult. How many films have been translated and the spanis' title is totally different with the British or American tittle?
Only that Be carefoul with the translations.
Sometimes, when I try to translate something, it looks like i am returning to my childhood, when i went to the school and my English teacher send homeworks: translating from spanish to English. And i think it wasn't a good idea to teach a foreign language. That is the main problem of teaching English in that ages.
I will try to translate some songs!
