Moon's Son

It's a foolish man who doesn't get it,
a legend tells that a female gypsy conjured the moon until the dawn,
she was asking in tears to marry a gypsy.
You will have your man, tanned skin,
the full moon said since the sky:
but I want in return your first son who you will have with him,
who sacrifices its own son, just not to be alone, are going to love just a bit.

Moon, you want to be mum and don't find a man with whom to have a child,
tell me silver moon what do you intend to do with a real child. Moon's son.

A child was born from tanned father who was white like the stoat's back,
with his grey eyes instead of green, albino child of moon
I'm damned, this child is from a gadze and I don't keep it to myself

When the gypsy thought that he was dishonored,
so he went to his woman with a knife in hand.
Whom is the child? you cheat me for sure,
and she was mortally wounded, later he went to the mountain
with the child in his arms and was abandoned him over there.

And nights where there is a full moon,
it will be because the child is fine
and if the child cries then the moon will wane
to make him a cradle.

  1. THE Moon's Son

It's a foolish man who doesn't get it,
    a legend SAYS(1) that a female gypsy
conjured the moon until the dawn,
she was asking in tears to marry a gypsy.
You will have your man, tanned skin,
the full moon said FROM the sky:
but I want in return your first(2) son who you will have with him,
SHE who sacrifices HER own son, just not to be alone, IS going to love HIM LITTLE.

Moon, you want to be A mum and don't find a man with whom to have a child,
tell me, silver moon, what do you intend to do with a real child? THE moon's son.

From a tanned father(3) a child was born, who was white like the ERMINE'S FUR,
with his grey eyes instead of green, albino child of THE moon
I'm damned, this child is from a NON-GYPSY and I don't keep it to myself

When the gypsy thought that he was dishonored,
[] he went to his woman with a knife in hand.
OF whom is the child? you HAVE cheatED me for sure,
and she was mortally wounded, later he went to the mountain
with the child in his arms and [] abandoned him [] there.

And ON nights where there is a full moon,
it will be because the child is fine
and if the child cries then the moon will wane
    to make him a cradle.

    (1) For some reason I would want "tells" to be "tells us" or "tells the story".
    (2) "first-born son" would often be used here
    (3) This has to come first so that the "who..." clause applies to the child, not the father.

  2. (this song have been very hard for me)
the seventh sentence: "who sacrifices its own son, just not to be alone, are going to love just a bit." I think the author tries to write a quote, it doesn't refer specially to her, said this, do you keep your correction?

  3. In that case I would make it: "HE who sacrifices HIS own son, just not to be alone, is going to love him little." You could also change "He who" to "whoever".

This discussion helped me understand the Spanish: http://forum.wordreference.com/showthread.php?t=2649080
