The word "blue" can mean "sad" in English, so "sad and blue" can be redundant. Can "azul" also mean "triste"?

1) Azul is only a Colour in Spanish and Portuguese
2) Blue is similar to sad in English and German, besides a Colour
3) "Blu" means sky in Italian.
Why do I am speaking about different languages?
it is because the original song is in Italian and the singer is Brazilian and probably the using of "Azul" is an anglicism here using the "sad" meaning. Perhaps because it sounds better, but unfortunately the Spanish speakers have not understood the true message of the song. This song is very known in Latin countries.
In addition, if "Azul" were a colour, unique meaning in Spanish, the sentence is wrong because you can't say "el gato está azul" but "el gato es azul" therefore the sentence would be "El gato está triste y es azul" although a native speaker would directly say "El gato azul está triste"
