Causing Stir

An well-known 74-year-old artist called Cristobal Coral has caused plenty of controversy with his work of futurist art "The abdication of the King", in it is featured a photo of none other than former king of Spain, Juan Carlos I, lying in a rubbish container.

This piece has been labelled irreverent and cruel by some media commentators.
he says: "I understand that it's tough accepting seeing the king in a rubbish container next to an old toilet. However there is a world of difference between a rubbish bin and a rubbish container, one is a place for junk while that the other is for things that have done their service, so a container is a symbol of renovation.
It is not fuelled by rage an anti-royalist symbol, at all, like some can think, in fact, 'Juan Carlos I' means a lot for me. a likeable and approachable figure and very important person in the Spain history playing a crucial role after francoist period but which many now view as irrelevant".

  2. Well, this is said for him, probably he trys to set the difference between throwing away something that you don't want because it will be rotten or simply it has left to be useful and probably you still love it. Anyway all artists try to be controversial.
