The True Story of Al Capone

Everyone knows the end of Al Capone who was captured by Eliot Ness and The Untouchables with charges of evasion of taxes.
But actually, it didn't happen like that exactly, the true plan was a secret operation of the C.I.A. There was secret agents, the President of USA and fictitious business man, all of them working hard during three years secretly. But Eliot was the visible part.

He was called "the enemy public number one". He was the responsible of about 300 murders and was behind most of illegal business in Chicago. The Prohibition took nine years working and divided to the city in two sides: the dry people and the wet people, the wet people lived in down town.

His fortune was about seventy five millions of dollars(worth nowadays) when he was thirty. He got rid of competition when he considered it necessary, the police and the major of city were bought by him, A lot of murders was not investigated or they went unpunished.

But he made a mistake, he was called to be delivered a truck of alcoholic drinks by 7 men, some false policemen appeared and just after, two men of Al Capone killed them, it was the bloody day of Saint Valentine in 1929, while Al Capone was staying in Miami. Everyone knew that it was made by Al Capone. He was very popular and supported by people because he was the main supplier of alcoholic drinks.

Six important business men of Chicago city, "The mysterious men", were going to speak with the President Hoover secretly who was the author of the Prohibition law, they are willing to pay money to fix the things. As result, Eliot and his men went to Chicago but several agents of  the C.I.A. infiltrated in Al Capone band too.

He was tried in 1931 with charged of evasion of taxes, condemned to 11 years of prison and eighty thousand dollars fine, on October 24, 1931. He was in Atlanta and Alcatraz prison and he was permitted to quit of prison having neurosyphilis in 1939, a disease that he got when he was young, so he couldn't speak.  His businesses in Chicago already belonged to another gangster, he didn't have anything to do there. Died in 1947, Miami, being 48 of a heart attack..

    (1) It must have been a predecessor of the CIA, which was established in 1947.

  2. (1) Yes, you are right, it is a mistake of the documentary which I have watched, probably was the FBI.
(line 12) the police and the major of the city were bought by him.(I mean mayor=alcalde)
he was to be delivered(interesting construction)
(line 22)AN eighty thousand dollaR fine=a 80000$ fine (is "dollar" singular ???)

  3. "mayor" is right

"He was to be delivered" is a little odd. Perhaps "He was expecting a delivery..."

For "dollar" we drop the "s" when it is part of an adjective phrase:
    An 80 thousand dollar fine
There is a two dollar entry fee.
He lost his 50 dollar shoes.

  4. We do the same with other nouns:
    A 50 euro fine
    A 7 day vacation
    A multiple-language broadcast

  5. I didn't realize that it was a adjective phrase because I thought that the hyphen was compulsory in adjetive phrases. Example: 50-dollar shoes.
