The street is crowed of people. But what it's happening in fact? If people weren't dreesed in white with red scarfs in their necks... probably we would think that this pic would be able to have taken in some country where the life conditions are very difficult. Balconies full of people, it's impossible to walk on the street ....
But this pic it was taken four days ago. It was taken in Pamplona, the Capital of FIESTA for this week.
People are running on the street trying to help the bulls to arrive in the Bullring. This act it's one of the most important events of this Festivals. Yesterday it was one of the worst days in Pamplona, due to the "Encierro" was very dangerous.
People want to enjoy the day, the night, and the "Encierro". But sometimes they are unaware of the danger that they have doing in this act.
This pic is one of the best pictures that I have seen about this Fiesta, indeed.

Encierro = significa CONFINE,PENNING (tuve que buscarlo en google!) o sea en esta frase sería = due to the confinement or penning of the bulls.
Kathryn,
DeleteI've just read in The Guardian this pic, and they call BULL RUNS:
THIS IS THE TEXT: "The San Fermín fiesta, famous for its bull runs through the streets of Pamplona began this week. Here, crowds take part in the first bull run of the festival, which attracts thousands of tourists despite heavy condemnation from animal rights groups"
So the correct Word to refer Encierro would be: BULL RUNS.
running of the bulls.
Delete"Later on at the Pamplona festival, a fighting cow leaps over revellers into the bullring after the fourth running of the bulls"
Encierro it's the spanish name. I prefered writing it in the spanish way.
ReplyDeleteYes Javier as you know words do not always translate directly and sometimes they have many different meanings. We do not have Bull Runs here in the UK so it is not a phrase we would use. So Encierro actually means BULL RUNS, but can you use Encierro in other ways, not connected to the chasing of bulls, for example farmers rounding up their cattle and directing them into a corral?
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I have seen some horrific pictures of this event! I have to say I don`t feel any sympathy for the people that take place in the ENCIERRO, I only feel very sad and emotional about the way the bulls are maltreated.
Kathryn
It depens on the context. But "Encierro = Bull runs, it's only used for this act.
DeleteWhen a farmer roundeing up thier cattle and directing them into a corral you can use: Encerrar, Guardar, Meter al corral.
"Encierro" is a Spanihs Tradition, but it's very dangerous. People who run there know what will happen them. They know the danger and they run ... so up to they!
Up to them . Yes your are right Javier, it is up to them! But the bulls have no other option.
ReplyDeleteDepends
Rounding
