To Write Someone Off
"I know your daughter has had a lot of trouble in school, but don't write her off just yet. She may grow out of it." Supongo que "to give up on someone" es una expresión sinónima.

Old Times ... New Times ..... Is it the same story?
This September has been a bit strange. On the one hand we began the month, remembering the tragedy of 11 September , on the other hand, if we read spanish news and we see or study the spanish situation is when I can afirm that this month has been pretty strange.
When I was child, and I was in the school, i had a subjetct named History. I could study that in the end of the XVIII Century, ( more or less, I think it was S XVIII , sorry if I am wrong) a new movement was born. It was called nationalism. New countries, new feelings .... but now in the XXI Century this movement has more strong. Cataluña, a spanish region or area, wants to do a referendum (elections) to decide if they want to separate of Spain. They don't want to be spainish but they want to be europeans citizens. OMG!!!! Terrible thoughts. Somebody can understand it? , Frankly, in the actual situation I think, and it's my opinion, we have a lot of stuff to do, to solve our actual situation, before attending these new movements. Another movement, 25 S is asking changes and solutions to our actual situation.
Are you agree with me that this month has been a bit strange?
It's only my opinion. Perhaps I am wrong or not , I don't know. But I think we have to solve our actual situation, involving and working all spanish people ( spaniards) together.

Indignants, Anonymous .... What is happening in Spain?
As all of you know, in Spain we are going throught a serious and a big economical crisis. Each more time there is more unemployment. The worst of this problem is that there is a lot of young people with good qualifications and they don't find a job. Most of them have to look for a job abroad, but not everybody can do it. The language is a serious problem. But now, most of the young people are learning foreign languages such us German, French, Chinese, Japanese.... looking for a chance. Not only we can find the unemployment betwen young people but also in older people. And in this group of people we find big problems.mortgages, loans, children in the university, children looking for a job .....
Yesterday a new movement called 25S was born with the finality of asking for our politicians new actions to stop this situation. Our politicians have a lot of rights but none of them want to resign them. They say that they understand people in the street, but the don't leave their rights, their salaries, cars , laptops, .... all of them paid for spaniards.
Now our Prime Minister is in NY, and this movement appears there to claim the same .... but I wonder .... Will we change our country? Will we have the chance of giving our own opinion? I don't know. Words and Actions but never Violence. If you ask me if I am an indignant ... I don't know but I want to contribute to change my country, to help in it development.

Sabe usted quién soy yo !
Sabe usted quién
soy yo!!!
grandes. Señor Andrew Mitchell negó a

Pirates and adventures
The second
Monday in October is celebrated the Columbus’
Day. But today, I am not going to talk about Columbus
but about another pioneer on exploring America. His name was Leif
Ericksson, this Norse explorer sailed to the Northern East coast of North America. It happened at about one thousand years
ago. This is what is now known as Canada
but He named the land "Vinland" at that time. He
and his crew were originally from Greenland. Experts,
during the 1960’s, founded a village and houses like those in Norway and Iceland. But they only established
a few settlements but not permanents.
Another explorer
who I want to mention today is Juan Ponce de León. He was a spanish man. He
adventured to the land of what we know as Florida. An interesting thing here, it is
that he was looking for an especial kind of water which could make old people
young again. At that time, many people in Europe
believed so. Nevertheless, He never found such prodigious water. In fact, the
movie Pirates of the Caribbean, On Stranger
Tides, is based partly on this story.
NEVER WALK ALONE. Fue un momento muy
emocionado.

agricultures. ¿ Quién querría ser agricultor? !!!!!!

Warning Signs
When my wife and I were not married yet, we used to go to the village on weekends. I were more young and reckless with the steering wheel and, of course, with the accelerator. I had driven hundreds of times on this road. I knew perfectly the way. A journey of 110 km, and with some very winding mountain passes.
I loved going to the village because of driving on these roads. I used to enjoy a lot and as always chose roads of second and third, because the landscape is wilder, I hardly used to bump into two vehicles in all the way. I mean, I was the master of the road... and (vented / unloaded ¿?) a lot of adrenaline.
I do not mean with this that I was a reckless fool. Knowing well the itinerary gave me an excess of confidence and I was conscious of it.
On that occasion, the weather was splendid. I was not driving fast and we had the windows down. My wife and I were chatting. The music sounded low. At this speed you could contemplate the scenery. What I did not see and perhaps I never saw until then, was the road sign which warned of the danger.
My wife and I are thinking that the fawn only was injured.

It was a very long straight. My wife started screaming. Some deers were coming from the right side of the forest. When I turned my head, the deers were in front of me. I braked and turned the wheel. I could dodge the mother, but the fawn jumped and slammed into the windshield.
After the shock, I could pull over the car on the edge. We got off the vehicle, I checked the damage, just some scratches and dents, and we looked into the distance but there was no trail of the animals.
The windscreen was like a crystal cobweb. There was a hole just in front of me, produced by the head of the poor animal and I could drive to the nearest town. There, we informed of the accident in the Civil Guard quarter. Then, we had to accompany them until the place of the accident.

They followed me and I drove very slowly. Making of guide for the police, after the shock, it was a peculiar situation. We arrived at the right place and we stopped. One of the guards ventured a few minutes in the woods. He returned empty-handed. The other guard told us we had to find the remains of the animal, for the thing of insurance and possible compensation.
The deer was not found but remnants of hair and blood were dotted in the front of the car. That seemed to be enough.
Once in my village, my car and I had to accompany the tow truck driver of the insurance to the capital of the province so that the windshield was replaced.
In summary, (now it is when the moral comes), if I had paid more attention to road signs and had not had so confident, probably, the accident would not have happened.
Some days after, my wife and I were commenting: what a coincidence!, that day I was driving slowly, and the possibility that if I had gone faster, maybe now I could not be telling it.
Now we have two children and a family car (minivan). We love going to the village and since then I am much more cautious on the road and I am very attentive to all traffic signs.
My wife and I are thinking that the fawn only was injured.

Describing a painting
This painting is in the Hall of Remembrance, inside The Imperial War Museum, and in that particular place you can see a huge painting by John Singer Sargents. In fact, it is a mural 20 feet long and probably 10 feet high, and it shows ten soldiers, almost life size being led by a medic through hundreds of injured bodies lying on the floor. All of the man have bands across their eyes, describing that they have been damaged after a gas attack during the First World War. But, through their legs in the background of the painting, you can clearly see a football match taking place.
Historians say that sports had become an escential part of army life. Informal football matches were used to bring worries soldiers together. Those sort of matches entertained the troops meanwhile they were recovering from the fight and preparing for it. It was also a great distraction from the horror what was going on around them.
Of course, the military autorities were very keen on providing oportunities to play football as well as to watch others play. In the 1940's, football had a great fame among the troops and the working class, the soldiers could watch few professional football players playing it. The common enjoyment of taking part or watching sport together gave people a form of equality, and because of that, sport in war was little different from sport in peace.

Me quedé inmóvil.
Like a Forum
This Blog each time seems more like a forum and it is something good for me because I am not good with the forums. I do not have patience and in fact I never have arrived to register myself in one of them.
Here, the community is still small, but, it is pleasant the cycle of reviews and responses or replies. As already happened in Lenguajero*, you are sometimes waiting anxious a reply to a comment of yours, not just for the correction but also by the intrigue of knowing that opinions, your comments could have caused.
Above all, it is something entertaining. Writing, correcting, reading, knowing, learning, here everything is interesting and amusing.
If you think about it, it is better than a forum, because here you have your writings corrected.
*I do not know if everyone that write in this blog come from Lenguajero....just in case:
Lenguajero was a web page to practice English or Spanish in a similar way as we do it here. Some who write here, before, we did it in that page.

Phantom Village
When I was a child, I used to watch Scooby-Doo. That should have been the reason why I love the "phantom villages" (and I hate developer companies)...
Scooby-Doo used to face the developing process as a destruction of natural landscape, with no return way... But this return way may exist...
Last week I visited a beautiful deserted village (with its arabic walls, its defence towers, church, main square)... It is called Ruesta and it was deserted because of the building of a dam in the '60s.
This could be a return way example, from a inhabitated village to a natural landscape. In only 50 years, nature has sprung up the old village. Never had I believed how powerful nature could be (with no man presence)...

Festival of San Mateo
Today have started the festival of San Mateo. These are the most important festivities of my city. They take place in the calendar week which includes the day on September 21, the day dedicated to the apostle in the calendar of saints' days.
Are markedly popular festivities, which dates back to the twelfth century, and that, since 1956, carried the nickname of Vintage Festival, given the proximity to the dates of grape harvest in a land marked by wine.
For us, the end of this week is the true beginning of course, the end of the summer and the beginning.... of the routine of every year.

Getting in Shape
After several months
feeling sick with the laziness syndrome, I resumed getting in shape.
Today, I went to my city's sports track to begin my exercise plan.
Although I had not run for months, I managed to finish some 400
meters repetitions without going breathless. Tomorrow morning, I plan
to start off a circuit training program composed of jumping rode,
sit-ups, push-ups, and pull-ups.
I hope to be in
shape by year's end and complete a 5k race.
Longed Rain
I almost can not belive it. This afternoon of Sunday, the sky is overcast and the sensation is of happiness. We need that it rains. In three months only have fallen four drops. Everything is dry. The grass in all parks is yellowish. The City can't water all the time.
The temperature is pleasant. Neither cold not heat. A light breeze brings a pleasant smell of wet earth nearby.
There are a lot of people down, in the park. Many children are finishing the last minutes off before the storm that is coming. Their parents are keeping a watchful eye on heaven.
At last it is going to rain.

What a boondoggle!"

The Early Onset of the Autumn
This morning I went to do some errands. Today the weather is like a leaden day of Autumn. I went out to the street with sweater. It was a strange sensation. A week ago the heat was insupportable.
The north of Spain is like that, with strong changes, days with much heat and others with a lot of cold. This Summer has been irregular. June very hot, July temperate and August extremely hot. This year has had a strong drought. Near my home, a few meters, runs the river Ebro. I do not remember see it with such a low level.

"Se abre el telón..."
We have been talking about the word telón" in this blog. But we forgot one of the most importat use of this word: the "se abre el telón..." jokes...
As the curtain is opened, a $1 red wine bottle appears. Closing the curtain. How the film is called?... It is a rudimentary red wine. (Basic Instinct).
Hilarious?

I can't understand!!!!
10 months ago, two little children mysteriously disappeared while they were playing in a park with his father. I remembered another child from UK who disappeared in Portugal while she was slepping and her parents were having dinner. Both cases are differents. But for months the father of these two childs was the prime suspect. He denied his culpability, and he wanted a solution. The mother too. Both were separated. As the children were with his father, and he was the prime suspect, he was in prision for these months. Last week, and thanks to the mother of these childre, a new report told that the father wasn't the suspect, he was the guilty of the crime. It is said, that both children were killed and burned by their father to avoid supection. Never had I thought that a father would commit such crime. A father has to love and care for his children.
When I am writing this post I am thinking that this would be a novel, or a film, but not my friends it's true. Regrettable, there are people who haven't got any sensibilty. This person has to pay for his crime, not only for his children's murder but also for all costs that he has caused. I think to my self: Should he keep in the jail for all his life? In this case I have to pay all his cost with my taxes... What would be his best punishment? I don't know.
I wish this were the last crime !

Speaking of the moon...
I have been reading the post "alunizaje" and the reply of Ivan. Both very interesting.
I also want to talk about the Moon and Neil Armstrong.
Casually I was born in July of 1969. Perhaps for this reason, I liked the Astronomy when I was a child and now too. But in my childhood was in a strong way. That month, that year, Neil Armstrong, the Apollo 11... left a strong impression on my. This has been with me in some way throughout my life.
Beside, it is said that the people born under the sign of cancer are influenced by the moon. I suppose they are tall tales, but the truth is that the moon has always attracted me powerfully. Why it will be?.

Hey diddle diddle
The cat and the fiddle
The cow jumped over the moon.
The little dog laughed to see such sport
And the dish ran away with the spoon.

English, britannic or american?
When I use an expression, very common in Spain but less common in other places of the world of Spanish speaking, I have some doubts. Especially, I have fear. I do not want to confuse anyone.
Matt, the "creator" of this blog, has a bigger contact with people from Central and South America. In these countries there are a lot of expressions which are unknown or strange for a Spanish and vice versa.
For me, results sometimes irresistible correcting in a way that sounds well in Spain, not in Spanish and, I do not know the whole world where Spanish is spoken. Even, in some places of Spain are used strange expressions for me.
Sometimes I wonder, what is more interesting for Matt?:
"conducir" or "manejar" a car, "echar" or "tomar" a nap.
I suppose that by proximity, are more useful the expressions from the other side of Atlantic Ocean, in the same way than for me the expressions of this side, britannic English.
But, also there is the television., internet,.... the globalization.
In short, I am not sure the best option, I only know I do not want confuse.

Again with my exam.
Long time has passed after last time I wrote. I was tired, though perhaps more mentally than physically. Sometimes I visited the page and when I wanted write something, only were depressing things. I discarded the idea. I did not want bittering the day to anyone.
Now, I have a week off and I am studying for my English exam. It will be the next Tuesday. I have studied nothing. Only I have been reading some pages of some books. I have to go to the exam but I have my moral on the floors. It will be that it have to be. God will say.
Of course, I want to pass my exam but each time it is more difficult to find time to study. And when I have found the time, strength fails me.
If I pass my exam, I will drink a nice cold beer to your health. If I don´t ...too.
