It's interesting because "esperanza" is different meaning of "ilusion" in Spainish.
ReplyDeleteexample: "Tengo la ilusion de que me toque la lotería pero no tengo ninguna esperanza de que ocurra". How would you say it in English?
"esperanza" has to do with mathematical probability
"ilusion" has to do with to desire,
Well, by those definitions "esperanza" corresponds to "expectation" and "ilusión" is hope. So your example would be:

By the way, "ilusión" and "illusion" are "false friends". An "illusion" is only an "espejismo" or an "ilusión óptica".
But the Spanish meaning does explain the English "disillusioned", which has the same meaning as "desilusionado".
