La temporada de tormentas tropicales en el Atlántico ha comenzado otra vez. La primera del año es Andrea, que ahora misma está atravesando Florida y se dirige a la coste este de los EEUU. Parece que va a fallar mi casa (vivo a una distancia de 300 km de la costa), pero la mala noticia es que mi esposa y mi hija están en Charleston, una ciudad directamente en la trayectoria de la tormenta. Charleston es una ciudad turística, y habían planeado ver las vistas y pasar un rato en la playa. Se esperan mucha lluvia y vientos fuertes, malas condiciones para un recorrido del área. ¡Qué lástima!

Charleston es una ciudad turística, y habían planeado (ver las vistas)* y pasar un rato en la playa. ReplyDelete* Ver las vistas: It's a literal translation of "sightseeing". Here, we translate this latter as "hacer turismo".
I'm certain that this expression "ver vistas" will be commonly accepted in Spain with time (short time). Here, each time the English is being more used and known for much more people. It's the same that the expression that you were talking about the other day, but in reverse.
Thanks, Eduardo. Sospeché que "ver vistas" fue incorrecto, pero esta fue la manera más fácil de descubrir. En inglés el "tourism" es un concepto económico, o una industria, no algo hecho por individuos, así que "to do tourism" me suena muy mal. Pero puedo aceptar "hacer turismo", si insistes.

I'm late. I didn't notice that katie's post was uncorrected. These days I only have had enought time to make little and fast corrections. I have to write something. I hope be able to do it this weekend.
ReplyDeleteNow, I'm thinking about the coincidence on the reading of "El Alquimista". I'm trying to imagine several people reading and talking about the same book at the same time. Something like that, we made it in the school in our childhood.
