It uses electromagnetic radiation in high frequency, these waves are headed towards to soil and when they detect a different soil structure then they show it bouncing. In this way the GPR records data and so it is able to determine how is the structure and form of an object under soil. An real utility.
It is used by Police to find bodies under soil even if it takes buried long time or a lot of decades.
It turns out very interesting using for archaeology, In Spain, Archaeologists are discovering a lot of Roman buildings under more modern buildings. We can convert the soil in transparent. The treasures can't already be buried. :)
But actually to scan the soil takes long time.

(1) "Soil" is a specific term referring to the "stuff" at the surface of the earth. You used it well in "soil structure". But when referring more generally to the surface of the earth, "ground" is the better term.
I was not aware of this technology. I'm glad to know about it.
I was joking when I said "The treasures can't already be buried" remembering the pirates burying their treasures. So it is the end of burying treasures. For this reason I wrote "already". Is it right?
