Goodbye to 2012!

Only two hours left until the New Year starts. I’m here, in my parents’ house, with my close relatives, celebrating and saying goodbye to 2012. In the meantime, the grapes and cider are ready waiting for us. My father was born in Spain, so we gobble twelve grapes at midnight: one grape with each bell strike.

In my country, the year’s last hours are full of strident sounds, and I am worried for my dogs because they pass the night trembling with fear. Too many fireworks, wanna-be musicians playing out of tune, and sporadic gunshots compose the perfect symphony for our ears. Sadly, every year countless children and adults get injured by fireworks, and once in a while someone dies by a stray bullet.

But New Year’s Eve represents to me more an opportunity to reflect on than an occasion to celebrate. Particularly, the year-end is the perfect time to review the past year, assess my life, and plan for the future.

To summarize, a new job, an apartment, a trip in the summer, some 5Ks, and more fluency in my English writing and speaking skills are some of my resolutions for the coming year. I hereby assure that I will post more frequently on Scribblando. That’s all for this year. Best wishes to all!

Nice to meet you 2013!

  2. Thanks Katie,

    - 5Ks = running races of five kilometers.

    - I have problems picking topics too.

    - It is illegal to shoot into the air but some irresponsible people do that.
