My Beachless Summer

The summer season almost ends, and I haven’t gone to the beach. This could sound strange coming from a person that lives five minutes from beautiful beaches. During my youth, a day at the beach was a usual activity for my friends and me.

This summer, I have been so busy dealing with family problems that I have forgotten to dedicate time for myself. For every human being, leisure time is essential to maintain* a healthy emotional balance. In my case, the beach represents the perfect place to recharge my batteries.

On the other hand, at least the Sun hasn’t taken its toll on my skin. Unfortunately, my country suffers from a high prevalence of skin cancer. Such is life in the tropics.

I will try to visit the beach over the weekend because I would not forgive myself if my summer ends without going to the beach.

*or maintaining?.

"To maintain" was correct. "Maintaining" would not have been.

*Finally! I get to correct someone about the subjunctive instead of being the victim of it.:-) Another option would be "...if my summer ended without..."

  2. Thanks Matt! Tenía dudas con el subjuntivo en la última oración pero no lo utilicé.
