World day of suicide prevention

Today is celebrated the world day of suicide prevention, each year 3000 people commit suicide in Spain, a terrible statistic above traffic deaths, however, it isn't very commented in the media. There are more than three thousand suicides each year in Spain . This is mentioned for Statistic National Institute(INE) in Spain. Main suicide risk is unemployment but it isn't concluded it is as result of economic crisis, nevertheless, it's possible to conclude it has raised amount of people need help of a doctor due to mental trastorno, in particular, depression and anxiety. There is an "telephone of hope"international association to help people with suicide risk with a local telephone number in each countries. There are the triple of women on suicide attempts but finally, men are the triple than women who get to commit suicide. It's likely the number of suicides is higher because there are many deaths which are not registered as suicides(traffic accidents, drownings,...). We must be aware of this hide reality and silent in the world and around us.

  1. Today is celebrated* the World Day of Suicide Prevention. Each year 3000 people commit suicide in Spain, a terrible statistic GREATER THAN traffic deaths, however, it isn't very commented UPON in the media. There are more than three thousand suicides each year in Spain. This is mentioned BY THE Statistic National Institute(INE)** in Spain. THE main suicide risk is unemployment, but it isn't concluded THAT it is as result of economic crisis, nevertheless, it's possible to conclude THAT it has raised THE NUMBER of people needING THE help of a doctor due to mental DISTRESS, in particular, depression and anxiety. There is A "telephone of hope" international association to help people with suicide risk, with a local telephone number in each countrY. There are THREE TIMES AS MANY women IN suicide attempts but finally, THREE TIMES MORE men than women ACTUALLY commit suicide.*** It's likely the REAL number of suicides is higher because there are many deaths which are not registered as suicides (traffic accidents, drownings,...). We must be aware of this hidDEN AND SILENT reality in the world and around us.

Good job on a tough topic.

*better: Today we celebrate the..., or Today is the...

    **better: National Institute of Statistics

***I might have said it this way: While three times more women than men attempt suicide, in the end three times more men succeed in killing themselves. (Although it's hard for me to call that "success").

  2. thank you Matt, but I thought that "that" is not necessary when it is before a subject.
    THAT it is...
    THAT it has...
can you change UPON for another preposition?

  3. You're right, Roberto, the "that" is often dropped, but I thought it was better to include it in those two cases. I think it is left out more often in spoken than written communication. To me, it is always more clear to include the "that".

For "upon", "on" and "about" would also work. No matter which preposition you use, it's a little awkward. I might have said "it doesn't get much attention in the media".
