Puerto Rico's Economy

The Puerto Rico’s economy does not escape from its cloudy outlook. Last week, Moody’s downgraded the general bonds of the Government of Puerto Rico to just one level above junk. This week, the same credit agency lowered the credit rating of three Puerto Rican banks. The economic forecast for the fiscal year 2013 is that the Puerto Rico’s sluggish economy will grow only 0.6 percent.

Having said that, how can you explain what I saw today at the supermarket? Just a glimpse: A weak woman hardly carrying two cases of beer, a 300-hundred-pound woman grabbing countless boxes of cheesecake Sara Lee, a small kid balancing four 2-liter-bottle of Pepsi, an old man juggling with three bottles of hard liquor, an endless line to play the electronic state lottery, and dozens of shopping carts full of junk food and useless stuff. Vegetables or fruits anyone?

Something is rotten here.

GIVEN* that, how can you explain what I saw today at the supermarket? Just a glimpse: A weak (maybe better: frail) woman STRUGGLING TO carry two cases of beer, a 300-hundred-pound woman grabbing countless boxes of SARA LEE cheesecake, a small kid balancing four 2-liter-bottleS of Pepsi, an old man juggling [] three bottles of hard liquor, an endless line to play the electronic state lottery, and dozens of shopping carts full of junk food and useless stuff. Good topic, Alex. You had to write about things in the news but also everyday things, which are harder, I think.

*The clause "Having said that," must be followed by I..., since you are the person who said it. So you could have written: Having said that, I cannot explain...
