Interview to a Repentant Terrorist

It is well known the terrorism of the ETA organization that has been hitting Spain during long time. They fought  for the independence of a place called "Euskalerria", that is formed with a little part of France and a little part of Spain. Fortunately they are not operating in in this moment.
I had the oportunity to see an interview of a repentant terrorist from ETA on TV, yesterday. The most interesting for me was knowing how is the mentality of a terrorist. He was counting how his life was in that moments and the details of how he was recruited from the ETA organization.
According to he said, the young people who was considered heros when they decided to join to ETA in those times. A lot of families was willing to hide them at their homes  if it was necessary. Every target was good if it hit the state security. No matter the potentials victims, there only was targets, no matter who dies. In fact, he doesn't even currently know how his victims are called. He didn't know anything about his deads.
While the organization was killing, its popularity was falling probably because there were more innocent victims each time. So he started to have an idealism crisis. "What shit is this?, fuck the independence", he felt manipulated by the organization. Finally he decided to abandon the organization who told he was expelled.
It seems guilty conscience ends up coming some day.
How many times ideology is used to manipulate young people? I think this is happening nowadays in other terrorist groups.

While the organization was killing, its popularity was falling probably because there were more innocent victims each time. So he started to have an idealism crisis. (1) Option: The terrorism of the ETA organization... ...is well known.
    (2) "Moments" would have to be a shorter time frame.

  3. Yes, I have been aware of ETA for quite a while, and I agree that a lot of terrorism is the result of idealogues/fanatics taking advantage of young people who are looking for a purpose in their lives. Lack of other opportunities is a contributing factor. Let's hope that the days of ETA terrorism are over.
