To expect is an interesting verb because all translators say it means "esperar" however when a native speaker says "yo espero" in relation to future, he is expressing a desire that he wants it to happen something, similar to "I wish". However according to the dictionary "expect" doesn't speak about "to desire", so a native speaker would never say "yo espero",

On the contrary you would be expressing a desire, and I supposed that you aren't.
